Whether you're a researcher or an applied sciences student, the current culture in academia seems to demand that you be a fully formed statistican, too. As someone with a very strong mathematical/statistical background, it still has taken me a decade working daily on academic data analysis to get really comfortable with the nuances of this sort of analysis. I am firmly of the opinion that the best research comes from the partnership between experienced statisticians like me, and experienced practitioners, such as yourself!

I offer consultancy and tuition in statistics at all levels, and this philosophy is central to everything I provide. For me, the best future for research is one where analysis is performed by statisticians, who can worry about all the fiddly little assumptions and geometrical/philosophical tradeoffs of different models. Then, researchers such as you, can focus on deeply understanding what the statistics mean for your area of interest. While I am happy to teach statistics from any angle, I always prefer to emphasise an approach that helps you to understand what the numbers truly mean, rather than getting lost in equations and tree diagrams or "checking assumptions". If you are studying, I will of course, however, tailor my tuition to your course.
